Men in Black 3 will be a pretty radical departure, and we've got the details. The Captain America star discusses his costume. The Spider-Man reboot may be very different than we've expected. Plus Predators, Mad Max, Real Steel and V!
Men in Black 3:
Inside sources give JoBlo a bit more info about this film: It's a time travel movie, in which Will Smith's Agent Jay is sent back to 1969, where he teams up with a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones's Agent Kay (now played by Josh Brolin). The film's villain is Yaz who's basically a biker who looks like a cross between Dennis Hopper and Satan. He's supposed to be a serious badass... but he's played by Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords fame, which seems to go against that.
The time travel is mostly played for laughs, although they do explore some of the race-related problems Agent Kay encounters in the 60s. There are a bunch of cameos from celebrities who are actually aliens: Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, Fidel Castro, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (actually, if it's 1969, he would be Lew Alcindor, but either way), and Andy Warhol all show up. Warhol in particular has a fairly important role helping Jay and Kay out.
There's some shameless product placement jokes involving the Apple Store and the iPhone. Apparently Agent Jay shakes the iPhone's clock app to travel back in time. The plot is sort of incomprehensible at this point (I wouldn't expect any less from a Men in Black film), but it basically involves Yaz threatening to kill the younger Agent Kay, so that the world gets destroyed in the future.
Of course, none of this is official yet, so take it with a grain of salt for now. [JoBlo]
Captain America:
Star Chris Evans told an interviewer about his Captain America outfit:
It's an amazing costume. Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it's tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top and given the fact that the movie takes place in the 40s and 50s they've done a really good job of making it look really cool. I think everyone that's going to see it is going to say, 'Okay, well done. Well done. I think they got the costume right. The casting they completely ruined, but the costume they nailed!'
I realize self-deprecating humor probably shouldn't count for quite this much, but it's quotes that like that make me think he'll be just fine as Cap. Anyway, he went on to describe the differences between this and his Fantastic Four outfit and what they're doing with the shield:
[In the FF suit] you could move around quite well. This is a little more cumbersome. It doesn't exactly breathe the way the Fantastic Four costume breathed, but it's the way it should be. Any type of World War II uniform would be a little chunky, and I think that's what kind of gives it its character. We've been testing a lot of shields. Last time I was in London they had six shields and I had to hold each one, see if I was comfortable with each one, see which one we all thought had the right look. The thing is pretty heavy, so I'm not sure I can throw it that far! I'll give it my best shot, but hopefully they'll have some sort of stunt shield when it comes to actually chucking it!

During a press junket, Adrien Brody spoke at length about why he prefers the movie's practical effects to CGI:
There are obviously a few CG moments where you don't see what it would be, but for the most part, we were living with practical effects. You get a really good sense of what things are like. Explosions are happening and you're running through walls of fire with flame-retardant gels on. It's hot. You see the flame bursts.
That epic shot - it's also a great trailer moment - where all the lasers are on us and on Royce, we shot that indoors in the studio space and the entire crew had respirators on and masks. We were there with this stuff blowing through the air, because it had to be tangible. We had this ash flowing through the scenery and it was amazing. It was supposedly not hazardous, but I doubt it because it never came out of my trailer for the rest of the shoot! But it was amazing, because even the air is tangible, and you know what you're in.

Spider-Man Reboot:
Rumor has it, this movie no longer takes Peter Parker back to his high school days; instead, the movie will start with him already a college student. That certainly fits with the fact that new Spidey Andrew Garfield is 27, placing him decidedly outside the range of a plausible high school student. (Or it would, if original Spider-Man Tobey Maguire hadn't also been 27 when he got the part, and he played Peter as a high schooler. Honestly, the logic of all this is probably best just left alone. Point is, Spider-Man is reportedly a college boy now.) As usual with rumors, take this with a grain of salt until you see a press release. [Hitflix]

Mad Max 4 - Fury Road:
Director George Miller says he'll be shooting the new movie in 3D. In fact, he had wanted to do that even before the latest 3D craze hit, saying that was the plan the last time Mad Max 4 almost happened back in 2003. He's supposedly developing innovative new 3D cameras for filming in the extreme Outback conditions. Anyone else feel the word "game-changer" coming on? [Inside Film]
Real Steel:
Here's a photo of Evangeline Lilly and Hugh Jackman on set. It's the first image of Lilly from the movie, although I'm not sure if they're actually in any costume or just sort of standing around. Jackman does sort of look like he's wearing what we've seen in the official images, so it's possible. Kind of a drab-looking future though... More at the link. [Sci Fi Wire]

Here's an interview with Morena Baccarin. Although I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of the opportunity to stare at Morena Baccarin for three minutes, here are the pertinent tidbits: there's talk of doing a full reveal of the aliens' lizard-like appearance, although maybe not with Anna (but we will see more of the real her); Ryan is going to be a key part of Anna's plan to use Valerie's hybrid baby.
[It's worth noting that, although it's only just been released, this interview was apparently filmed awhile ago, so it's unclear how much of this will still be relevant next season.]

As the founder of Kompakt Records, he has been instrumental in the label’s continuing series of Pop Ambient releases. His work as Gas on the Mille Plateaux label could be viewed as the beginning of this new wave of timbre-driven laptop created music. Voigt first started recording as Gas in the mid 90′s. His chief inspiration was the German Forest that resided close to his hometown in Cologne. He would take LSD then marvel at nature’s expansive beauty. What makes his particular take on electronic ambient music unique (for that time at least) was the absence of traditional instruments like synths and keyboards in favor of a strong focus on samples. The popular depiction of his work is described as taking actual Richard Wagner samples and distorting them beyond recognition. Thus similar to Oval’s 94Diskont, Voigt’s music could be viewed as a configuration of already existing works that get remodeled into something new thanks to the advances of modern technology. His earlier albums, Zauberberg (1997) and Koningsforst (1999), were darker affairs that relied more on a heartbeat-like kickdrum that incessantly pounded away in the background as intense atmospheric drones billowed continuously in the foreground. It felt, if not like a bad trip, than a really extremely potent dosage of lysergide that was all encompassing. The music had no start, middle, or end…it just was, for however long Voigt wished it to be. Pop (2000) could be viewed as a rather radical departure. The music became lighter, almost naturalistic sounding. The darkness imbued in the earlier works gave way to a more airy hum that seemed to pronounce Voigt’s departure from the deep center of the forest to its less frightening outskirts. The kickdrum also mostly disappeared except for two tracks. The album goes beatless for extended periods of time, thus becoming even more ephemeral in its structure. This album seems to be the blueprint for the eventual rise of the Pop Ambient movement that would begin the following year. The first three tracks (all songs are untitled) are like three parts of the same suite. There is not much to distinguish between them as they all seem to recycle the same key sounds. The music has an all enveloping feel that takes the listener on a long journey of pure sound. While the first 22 minutes of Pop can be described as similar, it is by no means boring or stilted. This German Forest music feels as alive as the talking trees in The Wizard Of Oz. And at times, you feel that the auditory tone will reach out through your headphones or speakers and physically touch you. The visceral quality of Pop by Gas is different than most rock music in that it does not have a concrete emotion attached to it. The feeling that washes over you can be different each time and stretch out over a long array of moods. Surprisingly, by the middle of track five, the music starts to change. It now feels like we are approaching Pop’s magic hour. The sun is setting and shadows are quickly replacing light. The music while not reaching Zauberberg’s gloominess is being encroached upon by nighttime. An ominous undercurrent is forming. This shift in mood is why Pop is my favorite Gas album. It starts as a playful repudiation of earlier works only to allow them to creep back in unexpectedly. The shift from the more friendly beginnings of Pop to its unsettling conclusion is maybe a comment on nature itself. The forest is beautiful during the day, filled with many wonders and sights. However, once darkness settles in, it becomes a scary place with the possibility of danger lurking behind every tree. Wolfgang Voigt never released a followup album after Pop. He seemed to put his most successful moniker to rest. He would occasionally resurrect Gas for one track appearances on Pop Ambient 2005 and Pop Ambient 2007, but otherwise fell silent, more interested in expanding his Kompakt label. As Mille Plateaux stopped releasing new products and went bankrupt, the Gas discography went out of print, which led to prices for individual albums on Amazon and Ebay to fetch well over $100. For many years, the scarcity of Pop was a shame as it was too expensive for many to obtain a copy. Finally, Voigt rereleased all the music on his own label as a boxset Nah Und Fern in 2008. It included all four Gas albums with remastered sound and new artwork. The reputation of Gas, and Pop in particular, continues to grow. Many publications have included it as one of the best albums of the last decade. For such an uncompromising experimental electronic album that makes little or no concessions to melody, beats, vocals, or discernible instrumentation, this continued acknowledgment is a wonderfully pleasant development.
